Robert B. Shelton D.D.S. M.A.G.D.
Dr. Shelton is a Longview native, so he has a thorough understanding of the community and is committed to his hometown. After graduating from Longview High School in 1969, he attended Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin University. From there he enrolled in the University of Texas Health Science Center Dental Branch in Houston, Texas. Upon earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1976, he returned to Longview to set up private practice. In 1984, through on-going continuing education, Dr. Shelton obtained the Fellowship (FAGD) level in the Academy of General Dentistry. In July of 2011 he was awarded the Academy’s most prestigious honor, Mastership of the Academy in General Dentistry (MAGD). To accomplish this goal, Dr. Shelton had to complete over 1,700 hours of continuing dental education. As a recipient of the Mastership award, Dr. Shelton joins more than 2,200 active AGD Masters who are dedicated to staying up to date in their profession through continuing education in order to better serve the public. With over 100,000 general dentists in the country, less than one percent are Masters with the AGD.
In addition to the Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Shelton maintains membership in The American Dental Association, The Texas Dental Association, The East Texas Dental Society, The Land O’ Pines Study Club, The American Board of General Dentistry, The Academy of Implant Dentistry, and is on active staff at Longview Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Shelton and his wife of 40+ years, Sharon, have two children: Ben and his wife Deena, and Bonnie Ford and her husband, Collin. Dr. Shelton enjoys fishing, is an avid deer hunter and is now enjoying those two passions with his grandchildren. He also enjoys cooking barbecue for various community fundraisers.
