As a Veneers Dentist We Can Show You How to Make Your Veneers Last Longer

Veneers DentistIf you need to restore a tooth, visit an experienced dentist that does veneers.  If your tooth has become cracked or chipped, it doesn’t need to be pulled. It simply needs to be restored.  In our dentist office we are experts at restorative dentistry so if you damage a tooth, or several teeth and you need a veneer or a crown, we can help your damaged tooth to look natural and feel great

A veneer can restore a tooth, close gaps, cover dark stains, and make teeth the same length and more.  This makes them extremely popular, and even celebrities have been known to use them in order to create a show-stopping smile.  Regardless of whether you need a restoration or simply want to improve your appearance, we can help.

Visiting a dentist who does veneers is wise because the better your veneers look the more natural your smile will appear.  This requires paying attention to details so that the veneer or veneers will blend in perfectly with your surrounding teeth.  In order to create them in the right size and shape, we will start by taking an impression of your mouth.  This is typically done at your first visit before your teeth are prepared so that obvious and not so obvious dental issues may be identified.

Next, we will prepare your teeth by removing a portion of the enamel.  How much needs to be removed will be based on your teeth and gums.  As a dentist trained in veneers, we will remove as little as possible so that the veneer can lie flat, and you can maintain your original tooth structure.  Afterwards, your teeth may potentially be somewhat sensitive so we will place a temporary veneer on top in order to protect it. Once the permanent ones are ready they will be bonded to your teeth so you can smile with confidence.

While veneers can give you a beautiful smile, you still need to focus on oral hygiene and take the steps necessary to keep your teeth and gums in good health.  This will help your veneers to last longer since they rest on top of your natural teeth and are directly impacted by tooth decay or gum disease.  We recommend that you brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush twice a day, have your teeth cleaned twice a year, and floss daily in order to stay in excellent health.

Additionally, we will examine your teeth to evaluate if you grind or brux them.  If you do, we will have a night guard created that you can wear in order to prevent your upper and lower teeth from touching.  This is important because grinding your teeth can cause your veneers to chip or break off.  If you play aggressive sports, you should wear a custom fitted mouth guard while playing.  These are basic preventative steps that aren’t hard to do, but will make a big difference in how long they last.

Finally, you need to be careful to avoid eating anything that really shouldn’t be eaten.  In other words, you can eat normal foods including nuts but shouldn’t bite your nails, chew on a pencil, or eat ice.  These things can damage your veneers and cause them to need to be replaced.

If you follow these simple steps, your veneers should last a long time.  As an experienced veneers dentist, we can help you to keep them in good condition so schedule an appointment today.
